This piece holds profound personal significance as a collaboration with 1opium who inspired me since my teenage years — a time when I was fortunate enough to spend some time with him — and after two decades of zero contacts, life made us meet again.
1opium groundbreaking contributions to the graffiti art world are rooted in a relentless exploration of the letters and characters that form his street name (tag). This obsessive repetition mirrors, in a way, the principles of industrial design—my background—where pieces are mass-produced in series, and this repetition can itself become art. This concept aligns with the technique I used to create the sculpture, which was 3D printed.
The cascading letters painted by 1opium on the sculpture introduce a dynamic, organic quality, as they descend down the wrist, melting and flowing toward the fingers, evoking a sense of transformation and suggesting that identities, like opinions, are not static but continually evolving. This fluidity reflects the adaptability of graffiti art, which interacts with its environment, transforms spaces. In the same way here the piece was transformed by the letters across its three-dimensional surface so to fully appreciate it must be viewed from all angles and rights.
Ultimately, this piece is a celebration of shared creativity, merging formative experiences and artistic influences, it honors the power of collaboration and the overlapping histories that shape artistic practice.
