Born in Sicily in 1982, Alessio Curatolo (CURA) began exploring graffiti and rap music during his early adolescence, dividing his time between rapping and painting.
While attending high school for Industrial Design, he discovered 3D design, which set the stage for his move to Rome in the early 2000s to pursue a bachelor’s degree in “Graphics and Multimedia Design.”
In Rome, Alessio delved into digital photography and video art. In 2007, alongside his friend and poet Girolamo Grammatico, he co-authored “Poesie senza ADSL“, a book combining poetry and photography. The project gained attention, leading to a touring audio-visual performance where Alessio created music and visuals for live readings. During this time, he developed several installations that merged photography, music, and video, examining the dynamic between the artist, audience, and artwork.
After earning his degree, Alessio began working in Tuscany as an Art Director for a communication agency, contributing to early “unconventional marketing” campaigns at the dawn of social media. He also produced video art and directed music videos during this period.
However, yearning for further education, he moved to Turin to pursue a Master’s Degree in Eco-Friendly Product Design at the Polytechnic. While in Turin, he collaborated with other artists on a structured music project, resulting in the release of a record titled OOZE. This project evolved into a broader creative collective, also called OOZE, which engaged in street poster art. These works were later showcased in exhibitions around Turin.
Day after graduating Magna cum laude, Alessio relocated to Berlin, where he shifted his focus, leaving behind the OOZE project. Initially, he worked in the marketing department of a video game production company but soon found his niche as a 3D Generalist and Motion Graphics Designer in a post-production and digital effects studio.
His Berlin chapter lasted two years before he returned to Sicily and later moved to Barcelona. During this time, he frequently traveled to Germany and the UK for freelance commercial projects. A year later, he accepted a job in Shanghai, China, where he lived and worked for six years.
Over the past 10 years, Alessio has collaborated with renowned marketing agencies and major post-production studios, contributing to advertising campaigns and events for high-end brands.
Currently based in Sicily, he is dedicating his time to developing a series of personal projects that span both artistic and commercial domains.
