“Breath of Existence” is a thought-provoking piece that delves into themes of survival, dependency, and the intricate relationship between humanity and the environment. The artwork features a metal tank painted with my signature pink color and my logo in white, mounted on a structure with wheels for mobility. This juxtaposition of the cold, industrial nature of medical equipment with the warmth and softness of fur details creates a striking visual and tactile contrast.
The artwork carries a stark warning about the future: in a world where air may no longer be breathable, oxygen tanks could become essential accessories for survival. This custom tank pioneers the trend, emphasizing the urgency of environmental preservation and the consequences of neglecting our planet’s health. By elevating a utilitarian object to the realm of art, I challenge viewers to consider the profound significance of everyday items once they are out of context. The oxygen tank, typically associated with vulnerability and illness, transforms into a universal symbol of life’s preciousness and our collective dependency on the environment and technology.
“Breath of Existence” boldly comments on current global issues, such as the air quality crisis and the impact of pandemics, making it timely and resonant. The piece invites an introspective exploration of what it means to breathe, to exist, and to rely on systems beyond our control.
As an act of protest, I carried “Breath of Existence” to a local art exhibition from which I was banned on the grounds that my pieces were related to religion and war, leading to censorship. By walking around the exhibition with the tank, I symbolized the need for “fresh air” in the administration of exhibition spaces, advocating for artistic freedom and expression.
